On
Friday, April 8, 2011, Matt, Kevin, Jim and I drove to Atlantic Yacht
Basin in Chesapeake, VA to deliver Bayliner 4788 "Hideaway" to Calvert
Marina in Solomons, MD. We checked out the boat, had dinner and stayed
on board Friday night.
At 0730 Saturday morning we were
underway. The weather was cool and overcast. We proceeded under the
Great Bridge draw bridge and passed through the Great Bridge lock. Then
under three more draw bridges as we proceeded up the Elizabeth River
toward Norfolk. From there we passed over the Hampton Bridge Tunnel and
into the Chesapeake. As we turned east into the bay, waves increased to
2 - 3' and occasionally 4 feet. Hideaway rode great at ~ 14.5
knots/2400 RPM. The further north we got in the Bay, the smoother
the conditions were. We approached Solomons at ~1730. As we entered we
checked the port and stbd transmission shift levers to be sure we had
control - we did. As we approached the shed at Calvert, the stbd
transmission would not shift out of forward into neutral or astern.
Digger secured the stbd engine end cautiously moved us toward the T
head on H dock. Upon arrival, we secured the boat on H dock. Was good
to have Hideaway safely delivered to Solomons.
On Sunday morning, paul and Kim rode their motorcycle down to visit and
see the boat. paul and I crawled into the engine room and made a
field expedient, temporary repair to the stbd transmission shift
linkage. Two tie-ties held the linkage securely in place. We op checked
the shifter several time at the pier and elected to move the boat to
the shed. thought it was better to do while I had help. We made the
move to the shed slowly and without any problems. We connected shore
power and secured the boat. Hideaway is now safely at her slip at
Calvert Marina.
Saturday morning breakfast on board. That's decaffeinated coffee - I
was loudly chastised!
