On
Saturday, Suzette and I drove to Bedford, PA for Juli's promotion
ceremony. We stayed at the Bedford
Hampton, Inn which was very nice. On Saturday evening, we met at Jean Bonnet's
Tavern in Bedford, a very old and historic pub. We had a wonderful
dinner with Juli, Larry, Sue, Keir, Jen and Ada. After dinner, we had
ice cream at the Dairy Freeze in Bedford, and sat out side for a time
visiting and enjoying the evening. Then back to the hotel to watch Ada
enjoy the pool.
Sunday morning, Suzette and I had breakfast at the hotel, then drove a
short distance to the Omni. The Bedford Springs Resort is a wonderful old and
historic resort nestled in the hills of central Pennsylvania, famous
for it's golf course and spa and has a long history. Juli had reserved the Navy
conference room for her promotion ceremony and lunch.
Guests arrived about 1200 and the we began the ceremony. Juli had very
graciously asked me to be say a few words and conduct the promotion
ceremony. It was an honor to do this for our very good friend and
share the event with her friends and family. Present were:
Juli's mother, Sue; her sister Jen and her husband Keir, and
their delightful 2-1/2 year old daughter Ada; Juli's F-14
squadron commander Dave and his wife Laura as well as USAF F-15 pilot
Doug (Note: I had promoted Juli to LCDR at HMX-1 - Doug promoted Juli
to Commander airborne in an F-15 - very hard to top that);
Wendy, a co-worker from Juli's most recent assignment in Washington,
DC; and Larry, Juli's good friend. Suzette and I completed the
small group of family and friends.
After the promotion, we walked the grounds of the Omni and took some
more pictures, then returned to the Navy Room for a wonderful
lunch, served by Shiela, whose son is a Marine, currently training
in Little Rock, AR.
It was a wonderful weekend and a great honor to promote Juli and
to wish her well in her current assignment in Rota, Spain.
